Tim Muehlhoff (PhD, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) is professor of communication at Biola University in La Mirada, California, where he teaches classes in family communication, interpersonal communication, persuasion, and gender. Muehlhoff and his wife, Noreen, are frequent speakers at FamilyLife Marriage Conferences, and Tim also serves as a speaker and author with Biola's Center for Marriage and Relationships. His books include I Beg to Differ, Marriage Forecasting, and Winsome Persuasion, which received a 2018 Christianity Today book award of merit in apologetics and evangelism.

I don't buy a lot of books, as I prefer to get them from a library. I heard the author speak a few times and thought he was a good communicator so I purchased the book. It turned out to be an excellent read. 158 pages of good content that is well written. Unlike many books, Defending Your Faith has substantive content in a readable fashion. It's an easy read that goes deep. And although the audience is primarily for married couples, I believe it is highly transferable to all kinds of relationship and even a great book for single people who want to get married (or even if they don't want to). The best book I read for a long time.
I love bettering my understanding of marriage and this book to a new vantage point I’d never studied. I think anyone who’s married needs to read it.
I've never seen or heard of a book on this topic - but it is definitely needed. Muehlhoff does a great job dealing with a subject that is likely confusing for most. How do you know if the conflict in your marriage is a result of spiritual warfare or not? Could it be? Does that sound weird to even consider? He does a great job giving some guidelines but also giving cautions from swinging too far one way or another (i.e. 'the devil's behind everything!' vs. 'devil? really? come on...'). He also interjects a fair dose of humor to keep things moving, real life examples, and quotes from historical figures and respected research sources. Every married couple (and anyone else) should read this book!
Anyone wo is serious about their marriage must have this book on their bookshelf and within easy reach! This is one of the few in-depth resources I've come across that addresses the important topic of spiritual warfare in marriage. It is biblical, practical, and full of engaging stories that make the concepts come alive. I can't recommend enough!
I refer to this book often for my own marriage and when working with couples. Dr. Muehlhoff's writing style, humor and practical insight makes for a clear understanding of how to identify and respond to spiritual warfare in marriage. This book was really thought provoking. As a Christian, I believe that Satan and demons are real. However, I don’t really think too often in the day-to-day as to why they would be interested in my marriage, or how they might want to attack it. Honestly, when it comes to relational problems I’ve been more comfortable with psychological explanations. Defending Your Marriage helped me to see in a realistic, practical way how the devil I believe exists is working against my marriage. The chapter on prayer was especially helpful and gave very good advice. The way the author broke down the Lord’s Prayer and applied it to the spiritual battle of marriage was very insightful. If you intellectually believe in the devil, but don’t think too often about how he is against your marriage, I’d highly recommend spending time with Dr. Muehlhoff’s book.
