This book is a great resource if you desire to expand your understanding of Babylonian mythology and religion. It provides the fullest translation of the Seven Tablets of Creation series in a way that's accurate and easy to understand, without sacrificing the beauty and artistry of the poetic language. I have to say that I disagree with some earlier reviews that say the average/amateur reader is going to enjoy this book. This book is not for those with just a passing fancy for Babylonian mythology. It's an in-depth scholarly analysis not just of the context of the Seven Tablets but also of the translation and transliteration process of the tablets itself. It's not for the faint of heart. I'd say you have to have at least a basic understanding of Babylonian mythology to really appreciate this book. Otherwise, it might feel overwhelming. If this is your first go at Babylonian mythology, or your research is limited to a few choice websites or articles you read online, I'd recommend reading an overall intro to Mesopotamian history and mythology book before taking this on. If you already have that kind of background knowledge, however, this is a great resource to add to your collection.
This version has the Sumerian language and glyphs that make the translations much more interesting to read. It is a well-done book in layout, size, and features. Cost is appropriate.
A very informative and interesting read on some the origins of myths, legends, and religions in general. While the tablet story portion of the creation is a bit underwhelming, it is a fascinating subject that's sure to set other readers to search for more answers on ancient history.
