Without a wi-fi connection or cellular data when traveling overseas, we thought a paper map would be the thing. This was helpful to a degree but not granular enough to answer "where are we" or "which exit" questions when approaching cities, etc. An atlas book would have been a lot heavier, but a lot more helpful. If you're smart, download Google Maps areas to your smartphone before you leave a connected place. This wasn't as useful in practice as we had hoped.Printed on very nice paper. As maps go, excellent quality.
The National Geographic series of maps has been our first choice for both France and Italy this year. On both trips the maps were terrific. I am the navigator, and I like to have a map in my lap and the GPS directions in my hand. GPS is great for getting to a place, but there is nothing like a map for knowing where you are. These maps have sufficient detail to keep you well oriented and to assist you in choosing destinations for excursions. We could plan driving loops by identifying small towns on the map and then inputting them sequentially into the GPS to keep us on small scenic roads. Sometimes the whole point is the beautiful drive with frequent little stops, and not the destination. I love the slightly laminated material of the maps. It makes them easy to handle, easy to fold, and very durable.
I wish I had read the product description more carefully. The map divides the country in two halves, with one on one side and one on the other. I thought I was getting the whole country on one side. My fault entirely, but still disappointing. The quality of the map is excellent. I will try to make it work.
We expected English names on the map, it being a National Geographic map as we were going to use it in conjunction with a detailed Michelin map book. Had to get used to different spelling/names for certain villages and cities.Very high quality plasticized type paper that won't ware out in heavy usage (it will/is hard to rip)The distance matrix is hard to use too as the X and Y axis have different/order names on it.For the price we are happy with it but it wasn't as expected.
I expected this to be the Rosetta Stone for getting around Italy. It is very detailed with many lines/roads leading to and from sites. But no road numbers! Worthless for traveling by private car, public transport. I guess that is what makes it an "Adventure Map."
great little map. you get a lot of information on this map - points of interest, transit information, attractions, and pictures. well worth the purchase price.
We followed our daughter and son-in-law on their 3-week trip to Italy and the map was just great to follow their trip from Venice down to Locri, Italy. A great map!
Nice level of detail, stood up well to abuse as we used it to travel Italy by train. We liked it so much we got the Ireland version for an upcoming trip.
