Gill Heriz is an artist and writer who was once an interior designer, and has a passion for architecture and design. She is also self-confessedly nosy, and loves nothing more than exploring other people’s houses. Her interest in women’s sheds, was first sparked by some fine examples in her local area, and now extends across the world. Her current shed is a studio built from old flint, where she can work, create, and relax. The author is based in Suffolk, UK. Nicolette Hallett went from painting at art school to photography college, and a 30-year career in commercial photography. She prefers observational photography, and has photographed everything from stone masons to stately homes. She has an "off the peg" shed, which is her painting studio in summer. I bought this for my wife who has her own "she shed". She told me that it was an interesting read, as it profiles the women who's sheds are featured. The shed in this book aren't all designer and pretty, they are utilitarian, which my wife liked. Less for the home decorator and more for the artist, or gardener that can appreciate a good workspace and what it means to their happiness.
The book had beautiful photos. Most of those shown were in England and a few from the northeast area of the US. I was looking for a more functional type of building so it did not meet my needs, but I am passing it on to my daughter-in-laws to enjoy.
Love this book. I enjoy relaxing at night leafing through the pages, looking at the beautiful photos and reading the inspiring text. It's a visual treat, and truly inspiring.
