About the Author
Philip Carr-Gomm is Chief of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. Philip is the author of a number of works on Druidry, and since the publication of his first book in 1991 he has been in demand worldwide for radio, television and newspaper interviews. Stephanie Carr-Gomm studied at Bath Academy of Art before travelling extensively. After returning to the UK she trained as a scenic artist at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and has since worked as a freelance artist for many theatre, opera and ballet companies. Stephanie administers the training programme of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. Will Worthington is a Grove leader of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids who has worked as an illustrator for the last 30 years. His interest in the ancient past and in Arthurian and Celtic mythology is reflected in his painting and drawing.

I love this deck. It's not only beautiful to look at and use, but the descriptions are insightful and nuanced. That includes the reverse position readings. Some other decks out there don't put any thought into the reverse position readings which are sometimes simplistic, but this one does put a lot of effort on both the upside and reversed readings. Now, this kind of deck is different from a tarot deck, and I always feel a bit dreamy and meditational when I get into this deck- very much like addressing the inner psyche. I am half-Celtic (Dad is from Scotland) and this deck puts me in mind of how we identified and worked with plants in Scotland when I was a child, but the approach here is not a herbalist one, but is on a different level of symbolism, as what the plants represent at the spiritual level. So it feels more like the druidic form of shamanism rather than your typical wise-craft with healing herbs. This is fairly accurate as we were taught that the druids revered different trees/plants differently. I prefer this deck to traditional Tarot decks now, with the exception of the Wildwood Tarot and Druidcraft Tarot, which are also excellent decks. But when I want a more mystical approach, this is one of my go-tos.
I was given the Animal Oracle deck this summer on a retreat and we used them almost every day. It quickly became my favorite deck. When I searched Amazon for other work by these authors I found this deck was being released this fall and pre-ordered it immediately. I've just begun learning more about plant medicine and herbalism and this deck is a perfect bridge between those studies and my more esoteric studies. I love that I can combine them with the animal cards or use them alone.The art work really drew me in as well. So much rich detail and symbolism.The accompanying book is very helpful and the packaging is very nice.
I am a certified Master Herbalist and have been practicing herbal medicine for 30 years and I find this set to be very informative not only in ancient lore and spiritual aspect but also in the present and ancient uses of the many herbs portrayed. I have found several herbs that I had not known the presented uses, ( I did do follow up research) as well as a few I had never heard of and now I plan on adding many of the portrayed plants to my already extensive herb gardens. The cards are a bit large for my small hands and I can not shuffle them properly. The book is excellently written and well organized. The illustrations on the cards are superb, bright and realistic. I would highly recommend this set to beginners as well as those more well versed in not only tarot, but herbalism.
This card deck began my foray into herbalism, its a great place to get started if you like the idea of working with herbs but don't know a lot about them. That's my perspective at least.I have to say that I am picky, and I love the artwork, there is a lot of painstaking detail, a LOT of time was spent making these cards and they are beautifully printed. Anyone saying otherwise must have had an older version of the cards because these are fantastic.The book that comes with it is great---well written so that each card is explained in such a way as to impart you with a feeling to associate with each of the cards in addition to clear keywords for both upright and reversed. These make sense because many herbs aren't good for you in high quantities, which is a metaphor for how things in life are, isn't it?The book is actually readable, it is not dry like pretty much every tiny book that comes with a card set. Combined with some personal research into medicinal (and magickal if you like) this is a great way to learn herbs as you draw them or read through the book.Do not expect this set to teach you about making herbal remedies. There is some information as to medicinal and magickal uses but it is not the focus of this tool. This is a divination tool. Accept that if you want to be an herbalist, you will need other references. But this is a GREAT way to start and to learn about herbs you might want to find more about.
If you have the Druid Animal Oracle, you will love this continuation of 'flora' to go with 'fauna'. The cards are beautiful and the accompanying book is informative while being accessible. The authors have designed the cards to be used together with your Druid Animal Oracle deck, if you wish. If you don't already have the Druid Animal Oracle, this is a stand-alone oracle deck. Gorgeous, informative and inspirational.
The Oracle cards are very nice quality and the drawings are nice. The book provides a little botanical information about each plant and then provides details about the Oracle card meanings. This is one of many Oracle sets that I have. I wanted variety. Plants appear as spirit helpers and guides just like animal spirits.
Love the artwork on these cards. Great handbook for helping you learn about the plants and they're usage.
