Sooooo creepy!! The way the author was able to get into the minds of these psychotic killers is crazy! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time but also really enjoyed the other moments of romance and dealing with the pains of a lost love and broken family. So good!
Not every man who tries to sweep you off of your feet is going to turn out to be Prince Charming.Wow, this was scary! I really appreciated the peaceful beginning. It lulled me into a false sense of security before Collins realized that the handsome guy she’d just met wasn’t necessarily who he portrayed himself to be. There were times when I was nearly as shocked as she was by his behaviour even though I’d read the blurb and obviously knew that some unsettling experiences were headed her way. I only grew more apprehensive as the story moved forward and I became less and less sure that my theories about what was going on with Brock were actually correct. Not knowing these things only made him feel more chilling to me.Collins made a lot of senseless decisions in this book. There were times when I had to stop reading and shake my head because I couldn’t understand why she did so many things that she knew were dangerous or ill-advised. While the plot itself was excellent, I had a tough time connecting to this character because of how little common sense she had.The romance was beautiful. I desperately wanted the characters involved in it to admit their feelings for each other and find a way to be together. They were perfect for each other in just about every way. One of the biggest reasons why I read this tale as quickly as I did is that I couldn’t wait to find out when or if this might happen. I honestly wasn’t sure what was going to happen with them, and that made it impossible for me to stop reading.Lovely Scars should be readoriginally posted at long and short reviews
I don't read YA very often because it's often just straight romance. This book, on the the other hand, was significantly different and I LOVED it. It had just the right amount of romance and wasn't super sappy. It also had quite a bit of suspense that kept me on edge and some parts were thrilling and adrenaline inducing where I worried for Collins. When you start the book, it reads as a seemingly normal YA book, but little by little, you see the facade of normality fade. You'll slowly notice things that just don't seem right, and the more you keep reading, the more the mask breaks until you get hit left and right by intense realizations that things are much more dangerous than they seem. I worried for Collins as Brock's dirty secrets came to light.If you like darker stories that keep you on edge, this is the book for you! It's paced nicely with great characters and the story line is unique.I received a free copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Written in the single mom, 1st person voice, I could actually FEEL this character when I read the book. What it feels like to raise a child, how you worry, how you want what's best for your child but also want a life. The heroine is a fun, witty girl living in a small town, just trying to make it though life one day at a time. But she also has needs. Her dating life heats up but then takes a dark turn. Once you start reading be prepared to take the rest of the day to finish the book, because it's hard to sit down.
A dark read that kept me on my toes reading. I admit I can sometimes guess the bad person in the book. This time I was pleased to see the author out-did me. A young single mother finds herself in danger after finding out her boyfriend isn’t who he says he is. A game of cat and mouse begins. I can highly recommend this book as I think this was a great read. Looking forward to seeing what the author comes up with next. Reviewed by Jennifer
