I love J. Vernon MGee and this set of commentaries. I feel like I have my own personal Bible teacher. We have a set of these and also have it on my Kindle and also have it on my Tyndall Bible App. If you can only buy one set of commentaries these are the ones to have. My husband uses the hard copies, my daughter uses the Kindle copy and I use the Bible Ap. Highly, highly recommend!
I have all of Dr. McGee's commentaries in Book form. When it became available for my Kindle at a very reasonable price, I purchased the entire set. I have not read a lot of Bible commentaries. Still reading McGee's after many years and hope to finish in two years. He takes a difficult subject, at times, and breaks it down to a history, language, customs, and political landscape in that era . He explains words and subjects in great detail for better understanding. If you have had trouble understanding the Bible, Dr. McGee will gently help you to understand the scriptures.
I've been on the "Bible bus" for years, a phrase anyone who has listened to J. Vernon McGee's Thru the Bible [the 5-year program] radio show would recognize. These books are based on TTB, but not exact, since JVM edited his spoken words on his radio show to make this book.I was taking notes while listening to TTB, and realized that it would be so much easier to highlight and notate on my Kindle. Plus, I can actually read what I wrote! 😀Anyone can download part or all of his show on ttb.org
I have the hardback copy of this series but wanted an electronic version, too. McGee explains scripture with clarity and sometimes funny comments. I like to read what he has to say to use in my Sunday School class. It was written years ago, but he is still on target.
Vernon McGee was a wonderful radio evangelist who I listened to a lot on the radio when I first got saved about thirty years ago.How Firm A Foundation was his theme song, and that is a wonderful hymn!In his preaching, he would call his radio audience "Dearly beloved".This is a wonderful series.I am only in Genesis chapter three, but already he is pointing me to verses that I have previously over-looked or misunderstood.The books came in perfect condition.I would recommend this series to everyone, as a valued addition to you library or as a gift to a friend.How firm a foundation indeed.MarkI

I am still enjoying the commentary by McGee. It is good reading material. However as a commentary, it is not a good reference as it is set up in the Kindle. I agree with all the comments and all the 5 star ratings for brother McGee. But as a product for a Kindle reader, I think more effort should have been spent on indexing the material. I thoroughly enjoy the reading through this but it would be of even more value if if was set up for reference. It is cumbersome to go through setting up book marks just to find a book of the bible for later reference. Kindle doesn't do this well but books that are set up for Kindle work OK.I would recommend this book(s) if you want to read it through as I am doing. Much of his insight would be great for Bible studies but I have other resources that serve much better as references. I would give J. Vernon 5+ stars and the Kindle edition 3 stars.
A Christian Pastor, online friend, pointed out this work of Dr. J. Vernon McGee. It is a comprehensive commentary for the serious student of the Word of God.....not for the faint of heart. Though I am a vociferous reader of things Historical MIlitary/Political Including the Bible known to "people of the way" it is my single most challenging study to date and likely to take me at least two years to "consume" to finally fulfill my basic knowledge of the entire Bible (or) as many prefer, the "Word of God"...I shall be busy!!!!!!
